Families take advantage of sales, clothing vouchers during back-to-school season

BRIDGEPORT — Stores in North Central West Virginia were packed this weekend with families picking out new backpacks, shoes, clothes, notebooks, lunch boxes and supplies.

Most students in the region will return to school in less than two weeks, and new clothes and school supplies are a must for most families.

Sears to close Morgantown Mall store as retailer continues to struggle

WESTOVER, W.Va. — There weren’t a lot of shoppers in the Sears at Morgantown Mall Monday afternoon, but the ones who were perusing the wares were quite active.

One man was trying on work shoes. Another was looking at riding mowers.

A sales associate was demonstrating an exercise machine, while a husband and wife considered a purchase for fitness.

Walmart to Raise Wages, Provides Bonus for WV Associates

CHARLESTON, WV – Recently, Walmart announced plans to increase the starting wage rate for all hourly associates in the U.S. to $11, expand maternity and parental leave benefits and provide a one-time cash bonus for eligible associates of up to $1,000. 

The company is also creating a new benefit to assist associates with adoption expenses. The combined wage and benefit changes will benefit the company’s more than one million U.S. hourly associates, including approximately 7,496 Walmart associates in West Virginia.

Man charged after theft spree uses kids to target nine stores

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- UPDATE 3/28/18 @ 5:59 p.m.
Police say Donald Abner led a theft team, including two adults and three kids, targeting stores at the Charleston Town Center Mall and Southridge shopping center.

Misty Lynn Duvall also faces charges, police say. Officers allege she and the kids helped distract store employees during the thefts.
